INCREASED REAL ESTATE DEMAND
It appears that the slow growth and limited real estate activity for the Merritt area is rapidly coming to an end. During the past months several huge projects have been approved and announced. These are projects that will have an almost immediate impact on Nicola Valley employment and housing. The projects which began last Fall or during early 2012 include:
Teck Resources reconstruction of the Highland Valley mine building -- $475Million employing 500 workers over 2 yrs (Teck also recently negotiated a 5 year contract with its existing employees at the mine); BC Hydro arrangements leading to the construction of another main transmission line to the Lower Mainland; BC Hydro energy award to Western BioEnergy to build a $140Million electric-generation plant on part of the Tolko property -- estimated 80 construction employees over the next 2 yrs and then 16-20 operators plus woodwaste haulers; and the other development this year is Huldra Silver. That company is already hauling ore to the old Craigmont Mine on the west side of Merritt -- the new grinding and floatation mill began shipment from China Oct. 3rd,2011-- site work began during November 2011.
These are all very real projects that create some jobs by the end of 2011 and it is expected to be followed by a huge ramp-up during 2012. This all translates into increased housing demand for Merritt and Nicola Valley -- new building and finishing of units is already underway.
It may be an opportune time to purchase real estate now......Below is our home and acreage being offered for sale.
